I did it! 600 hours and 6 long months. It was an amazing journey and I can confidently say I’m ready to start my career. I joined school with the intent to pursue a career as a makeup artist, and although makeup is still a great passion of mine, I’ve developed a new love for waxing!
Don’t get me wrong, facials are great too and my skin is on it’s way to improvement because of them BUT there is just some satisfaction about waxing. You can’t tell me those instagram videos of waxing aren’t satisfying!
So where do I go from here? What are my next steps? Unfortunately, as much as I would love to jump straight into my career, I have some waiting to do. You see, just because I finished school doesn’t mean I have my license. I wish it were that simple. To get my license, in the state of California (and most other states) I must take a written and practical exam.
While in school, when you reach between 420-450 hours, you apply to take your state board test. Why? Because this guarantees you a test date approximately 2-3 weeks after you have completed school. Sometimes it can be longer but not as long as it could be if you waited until you completed school to apply.
In most cases, students will finish with school before receiving their test date. Although this is completely normal, it is incredibly frustrating. I completed school (graduated) on May 24th and now a week later, I am still waiting on my test date. I continue to hope that each day I will hear from the school and they will tell me that they have received my test date information. Sadly, that has not happened yet.
While awaiting my test date, I am studying and preparing myself for the test. Although I am confident in my practical exam, there is a lot I need to refresh and study for the written exam.
I’m happy to say now that I will have more time to really get back into blogging. I’ve had such a horrible habit of posting and saying I’ll be posting more – then not doing it. I apologize for that. But now that I can put 100% of my focus back into blogging, I’m getting back to it! I’m going to do some more makeup looks, some reviews, and also giving update on my life and my journey as an esthetician. First step is likely a bit of remodeling for my blog.
